Fall 2025 Focus Newsletter

Plymouth Casino Under Construction

Many local residents have noticed the building now underway on the southern edge of the City of Plymouth, including large amounts of earth being moved. The construction of the future Acorn Ridge Casino is now well underway.

The Foothill Conservancy has reviewed and commented on the development of the Ione Band’s Casino project, including an environmental review where we submitted concerns over water supplies, traffic

and circulation, the impact on public services and support for use of natural construction material and native, drought-tolerant plants in the landscaping. We are currently focused on grading and erosion control measures which were committed to by the Tribe in its environmental document for the project.

The large fill slopes created by project grading, some of which are visible from Highway 49, are to be protected from erosion during winter storms, and siltation of downstream creeks and properties avoided, by the Project mitigation measures. These include implementing an erosion control plan with disturbed areas to be stabilized with mulches, silt fences, straw bales, binders and vegetation, and grading in phases so no disturbed areas remain untreated. The Conservancy has been in communication with Ione Band with our concern that the required erosion control measures are in place prior to fall and winter storms which are now not far off. The Conservancy wants to continue to work with the Ione Band to make sure that the local streams and properties downstream are protected.

Help Stop Mokelumne Pumped Storage and Save Lower Bear and Salt Springs

If you want to prevent:

  • Massive construction project that would close campgrounds and boating ramps for over 4 years.
  • Turning the wild and scenic Mokelumne River into a construction zone with road closures, big power lines and road cuts, traffic control, noise and pollution.
  • A project that will cause drastic daily moves in the Lower Bear shoreline.

About the Foothill Conservancy

Since 1990 the Foothill Conservancy has worked to protect, restore, and sustain the natural and human environment in Amador and Calaveras Counties for the benefit of current and future generations. Not content to just sit on achievements like winning Wild and Scenic Protection for the Mokelumne River, the Conservancy fights everyday against disruptive power projects like Mokelumne Pumped Storage, battle sprawling new developments and helps maintain healthy and fire-resistant forests.

You can see the Conservancy at work in your community, doing everything from pulling trash from local creeks to testifying in front of local City Councils and Planning Commissions. We work everywhere from tables at local events to the halls of power in Sacramento and Washington DC, and it all starts with your support.

Join the Conservancy today for just $40 a year for an individual or $50 for a family.
