Join our volunteer clean-up team

The Foothill Conservancy has been working with the community and our unhoused neighbors in an effort to clean up local homeless encampments along waterways. Some of these sites are occupied and some have been vacated by the time we arrive. The Foothill Conservancy has a long history of local stream preservation and our encampment cleanups are an extension of this commitment to keeping rivers wild.

We have an ongoing partnership with several encampments. We provide garbage bags and the residents fill those bags with debris. Once they fill the bags they leave them at an agreed upon location and we pick them up and take them to the dump.

At the abandoned sites, we work to remove all remaining trash left by the campers. ACES Services Inc. provides us with dumpsters and waives bin delivery fees. Sierra Wind Wellness and Recovery Center facilitates communications with our unsheltered volunteers

Our encampment cleanups help ensure clean water for the entire community. It’s a win-win for everyone involved. To date we have cleaned up five sites and continue to maintain two encampments.

We need volunteers for our next cleanup on Wicklow Way.  Please help us on March 20 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. We will meet at the dumpster in the old K-Mart parking lot. Wear sturdy shoes and gloves. Masks and physical distancing will be enforced.

If you can’t volunteer this weekend, but would like to contribute, commercial strength trash bags and monetary donations to support other organizational expenses (such as staff time) are greatly appreciated. Consider volunteering on our planning team. For more information call the Foothill Conservancy at 209-223-3508, and leave a message, or send us an email.
